Therapy: From Crisis Care to Everyday Self-Care

Not long ago, therapy was seen primarily as a treatment for clinical symptoms like depression, anxiety, bereavement, eating disorders, and other mental health challenges. It was often sought in moments of crisis, when life became overwhelming and something had to change.

But fortunately, this view is evolving.

There is a growing understanding that therapy isn’t just about fixing what's broken. It’s about nurturing what’s already within us.

Talking to a skilled mental and emotional health professional is no longer reserved for when we’re at our lowest—it’s now recognized as a powerful tool for preventing crisis, strengthening relationships, and fostering lasting personal growth.

Therapy helps us explore the roots of our behaviors, emotional reactions, and recurring patterns. It helps us understand why we respond the way we do, and offers space to shift those responses in healthier, more conscious ways.

This is about more than healing—it’s about becoming whole.
It’s about cultivating self-awareness, finding inner peace, and building a more fulfilled and resilient life.

Because we don’t have to wait until we’re in crisis to take care of our mental health.

Therapy is for anyone ready to live with greater clarity, connection, and intention.

I wrote this article for The CEO Magazine explaining how good mental and emotional practices can start with Psychological safety in the workplace. In an environment where employees feel safe to express their thoughts, ideas, and concerns without fear of negative consequences. When individuals are confident that their voices will be heard and respected, it enhances collaboration and promotes inclusivity and creativity.

Ultimately, prioritising psychological safety can increase job satisfaction, higher performance levels, and stronger team dynamics, creating a more resilient and effective organisation.

Enjoy the read.

I am Sandra Stein, an MBACP registered, Humanistic Gestalt Integrative Counsellor Therapist for individuals and couples, Therapy Group Facilitator and Author.

We are living in times of high anxiety, loneliness and the awareness of how Neurodiversity impacts our lives. Also in this how Social Media era, we are comparing ourselves more leaving us feeling inadequate, left behind and very self-critical.

I am here to help you feel free, encouraged, self-accepted, empowered and motivated to live life in your own style.

  • Before you go ahead on my page, I want to offer a 20-minute free-of-charge chat so we can check if we connect. I believe that the best therapeutic results happen when the client and therapist feel comfortable with one another.

My approach is multicultural-informed, which means I am interested in every part of you. Every aspect of your history translates into your self-expression today and how you experience the world and emotions.

I am curious about many aspects such as:

Where do you come from? What beliefs have you internalized?

  • How was your experience at school growing up? Did you feel included?

  • Depression (Loneliness, social isolation, feeling empty, hopeless and sad, suicide ideation)

  • Anxiety ( Phobias, self-harming, social anxiety, a sense of not feeling present)

  • Trauma and addiction

  • Eating disorder (Body dysmorphia, compulsion for exercising, self-critical, social media image demand)

  • Self and cultural identity struggle (immigrants, the second generation of immigrants)

  • Relationship issues ( Family, partners, work)

  • Loss ( Job, divorce, lifestyle, death)

  • LGBQT+

Read my article on Body Dysmorphia, self-esteem, how we were conditioned to relate to our external image and how social media impacts how we perceive ourselves.
